I wanted to wait and write something about this until I knew for sure. But apparently Chris Brown getting arrested for domestic violence is a hot item. So hot, that even Google is on fire about the incident.

Very little details have emerged involving the R&B singer Chris Brown and Rihanna alleged "felony domestic violence" episode on Saturday night. Chris Brown was seen by a witness assaulting a female which may or may not have been pop star Rihanna. As usual, the gossip web site TMZ has been getting the scoops before anyone else has, LOL.

But, the real issue I believe is a whole lot deeper. It's not about two very successful and talented artists having a street fight. No, it's about the 2.5 million females who are victims of domestic violence each year in the United States.

As a survivor of domestic violence, when I first read the Chris Brown arrested story, I cringed. Each time a woman is assaulted by a man, a shiver runs down my spine. It is as if I am sharing some kind of painful bond with that woman, whether I know her or not. It does not matter. Domestic violence can leave lingering emotional scars. Yet, it is one of those things that this society still remains hush hush about.

Remaining quiet so no one will talk about you is a frequent behavior of domestic violence victims. When I would get beat by my husband, I never wanted my friends and family know that I had become 'one of those' kind of women. A woman that had sunk so low as to let her man beat her, was just plain embarrassing. The embarrassment alone is enough to keep a woman from revealing the abuse to friends, family or law officials. But, reporting it to the law can become an even harrowing experience.

Maybe Rihanna is embarrassed to talk about what happened to her this past Saturday night. If you believe the reports on the gossip television shows, "Rihanna is cooperating fully with law authorities," Access Hollywood reports. I hope so. If Chris Brown did assault Rihanna to the extent that the tabloid websites are reporting, he needs counseling and possibly jail time. This type of behavior will not go away with a slap on the wrist. Apparently the police thought Rihanna's injuries were evidence enough to suspect domestic violence, because initially they called it "felony domestic violence." Chris Brown ended up getting arrested on suspicion of criminal threats yesterday.

This incident also presents an opportunity for parents to talk to their kids about domestic violence. Yes mothers talk to your sons as well. Men should never beat a woman, it's a s simple as that. It's not necessary, men are way more physically powerful than women, and it's just not a fair fight. My grandfather once told my crazy ex-husband that if you have to put your hands on a woman, then you don't need her. He told my ex, that statement also included his grand-daughter.

There are options to hitting a woman. Trying to calm yourself down in the heat of an argument is one of the most difficult things to do. Particularly if you are a man and have the upper hand. But, somebody, someone has to separate themselves from the scenario before anyone is hurt. It only takes a second for an argument to get out of control and escalate. Mix in highly volatile passion as an emotion, and you have passion filled anger, a deadly combination.

According to information obtained from the Women's Health Data Book Report -- Violence Against Women indicated that: more than 1 million women each year seek medical assistance from battering. A sign that Chris Brown getting arrested for assault against an unknown woman, needs to be looked at seriously. TMZ is reporting that Rihanna injuries are "horrific."

I hope not. But, the LAPD are confirming that the injuries to the woman who was at the crime scene indicated a split lip and bloodied nose. As well as this woman was assaulted by fist by Chris Brown. Photos were taken by police but have not been released to the media.

Let's take a look at our kids, because after all Chris Brown and Rihanna are just 'kids, ' they're both 19 and 20 years old. Most of us have probably lived two of their lifetimes. Parents, talk to your kids, some of you are going to hear some things you don't want to hear.

It's the most horrible thing when a woman is beaten up. Therefore I admire battered women who have the courage to speak out and get away from that horrific situation.

Yes, you can bet Rihanna is under tremendous pressure to sweep this under the rug. But from what I read last night online, she is cooperating fully with the police investigation.

@52 Faces: Yes it does. Looks can be deceiving. You never really know what goes on behind smiling faces.

@Cashmere: Yes he does look like a good kid. Has a wholesomeness to him. Now, as a result of this case Chris Brown has lost major endorsements and a radio station in Cleveland is refusing to play his music.

I. like everyone else was shocked to hear the news. Looks can be decieving. Having gone through an abusive relationship myself (never to the extent of having physical evidence.)my hope is that she comes back and speaks out on it. Not just act like it wasn't a big deal move on. She can do a lot for young women who idolize her. I recently wrote about this in my blog too and wish people would stop adding to the rumour mill.

@shaquille123: It is sad. I pray for Chris Brown that God delivers him from the evil spirit of abuse and anger he has. Pray for Rihanna that no harm comes to her during this time and that God provides wisdom and understanding to her impressionable mind.
