Close Encounters With A Bald Eagle

For the past two days, I've been observing bald eagles. I did a little research on photographing them and learned I need to get as comfortable as possible with their behaviors if I'm going to get a great shot. It's been pretty cold out recently, perfect weather to spot the great bald eagle.

Bald eagles can range anywhere from 35-37 inches tall and can have wingspans of 72-90 inches. the adult female fully grown bald eagle is not bald at all; only sporting a head of pure white feathers. The chiseled facial features give the bald eagle a look of baldness while shielding a timid personality. Eagles are timid, yet opportunistic creatures.

Even though they are birds of prey, feeding on fish, snakes and fowl - bald eagles are not normally aggressive against humans. However, if a bald eagle fears its nest is being threatened or




harmed, then the eagles' natural instinct to protect its young takes control and you could be attacked. It is recommended that you stay at least 30-50 yards away from an eagles' nest. Their sharp eyes will see you as a threat and an attack will be forthcoming.
