Yep, it had to be. Had to happen. I upped my mileage to 3 miles a day, and the first part of my body that let recognized it was my hips. When I reached the midway point of my walk, I felt 2 sharp pains in my hips, one in my right, one in my left. I knew what it was. It was just my body giving me backtalk.

Yes, my body is quite rebellious, having been accustomed to being overweight for almost 15 years. But, I held on, finished my walk and now I'm blogging about it.

I wonder how many other people get to this point and just quit. It's enough to make you want to change your mind that's for sure.

Of course the JDF Walk for a cure is only 1 mile long, but this is more than just a conquest for a walk a thon. This is about me being healthy and enjoying my later years. I don't want to succumb to the ravages of old age. You've seen those people or you might even know them, the ones who are always sick, and feeble. Not that I have anything against old people, because I am turning into one, but the ones who never took care of their body when they had a chance.

It is true you must treat your body like a temple. If not, you wil pay the consequences. For so many years I didn't treat my body like a temple and I paid for it. First I began having problems with my knees. Then, I began to gain weight and had to shop at stores that catered to healthier sized women. I didn't like that.

Being somewhat vain, I couldn't stand to take pictures, nor look at myself in the mirror. So, I decided to do something about it.

I looked in the mirror one day and decided I didn't like all the fat that surrounded my mid section. I didn't like my thunder thighs and jelly hips. No, I wanted the body back that drove the men wild in my heyday.

And that's what this exercise journey is all about for me. I want to re-discover myself and emerge as a newer, healthier version. Then I'll become vain again.

Have a great weekend!

It's a constant struggle. Keep at it. Your goal is a great one.

Way to go!

I started walking as a volunteer at my local SPCA about a year and a half ago.

Basically I walk every Wed afternoon for 2-3 hours no-matter-what, except thunderstorms!

Within the first 2 months I dropped about 7 lbs. These walks average a little under the 10K Steps routine.

Besides losing weight it has been fantastic for my mental health and creativity. I came up with a new business while walking one day ...

I encourage everyone to get in extra walks and help out the pups at your shelter. Win-Win!

Viveca
