Wow, holidays are hard on healthy eating! On July 4th I pigged out! Yes I did. Then the debauchery continued on July 5th. Friday and Saturday were my worst days. All I kept thinking about was grilled burgers and chicken. The chicken I never got around to, but the burgers were plentiful. I’m not going to be too hard on myself, because I did manage to get 3 miles of walking in over the course of those 2 fateful days. It just didn’t seem like it helped though.
I didn’t walk yesterday because it was storming pretty bad here, and well, I don’t do well in the rain. My allergies have a tendency to act up and I end up sneezing, sniffling and itching all day. No fun at all. I take Benadryl for the effects of high humidity coupled with a high pollen count, but who wants to sleep their day away? Not me.
So today as soon as I’m done posting this episode of my quest to become healthier, I will get my normal 2 days in.
Today I am back on my healthy eating meal plan. I just put a boneless, skinless chicken breast and a potato in the oven to bake. I love potatoes, love carbs, they are my emotional crutch. Did I ever tell you that French fries are my favorite food? They always have been, and probably always will be.
However, I’m really excited about beginning training for Team Challenge, Crohn’s & Colitis. It’s a 13 mile walk-a-thon to raise funds and awareness of this painful disease. We are having our kick off on July 17th and as the day inches closer, I can hardly contain myself.

Maybe it’s because I really want to do something substantive with my life. I want to leave a legacy. I’m not dying or anything, but I want to help others, it’s in my nature. As a volunteer walker, I must raise $3800 in order to cover my trip to San Antonio, Texas, where the half marathon will be held. We have 16 weeks to train and fundraise; I think that’s enough time. Be on the look out for links and widgets to help raise money for this worthy cause.
I hope you can find it in your heart to donate; it will be great if you do.
