You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, “He who is coming will come and will not delay.” Hebrews 10:36-37 (NIV)
Peace of mind is precious, and the devil knows it. You see, when you are at peace and are not discouraged by anything in the world, then the devil gets busy. He wants to flip your apple cart of happiness and spill out its contents. The enemy will use people who are close to you to discourage you from fulfilling your dreams. Don’t let that happen, you are too close to your blessings.
Let me share a real life story with you.
On my mothers’ side of the family there is always stress, negative stress. Created by members of the family themselves. It is a vicious cycle with brother against brother, sister against sister, and mother hating child. Everyone of them are being manipulated by the enemy. Being used as instruments of pain and suffering.
Frequently some family members will choose hurtful words as their tool to tear down each other. Those words cut so deep that many members of my moms’ side of the family have never experienced mighty blessings. And they never will until they change.
Yes, they have seen sprinkles of happiness and small blessings throughout their lives, but never anything phenomenal. Like someone will hit the lottery for $5000, and that will make them happy for the moment. But, no one has ever experienced consistent blessings. This is because of the wickedness of their tongues and the power the enemy has over them. Even the members of the family who have a little money saved in the bank and don’t have to live paycheck to paycheck, are not happy. They are not spirit filled. They are still struggling.
How do I know?
Because I know that inner peace and true happiness comes from within. You can’t show it if you don’t have it.
When you are blessed, peace will shine brightly to believers and non-believers alike. Strangers can see it in you.
However, on my mothers’ side of the family, there is no inner glow from any of them. Each and every brother & sister on my mothers’ side of the family is struggling with something. And because they don’t seek the word, they are blinded by the enemy. They are not experiencing life as God has intended it for them. This is because of discouragement, and a lack of patience.
Of course, gossiping and spreading negativity is at the core of this problem. However, some of them do not gossip as much as others. I pray for hours at a time for my mother who speaks ill of me all of the time. This she does to my younger sister, which taints her perspective of me. And to add a thought to this, my sister is an adult now and certainly old enough to make her own decisions about me and whether what mom says is true, yet she is prevented by the enemy from using her own mind.
Right now, my mother and I have not spoken in over a week because of some very hurtful things she said about me to my 24 year old daughter. Time and time and again I have confronted my mother about these things, yet she denies ever having said them. She will deny it in front of the very people she said them to. Never admitting her wrongs, nor offering an apology.
The funny thing is, my mother and sister both attend church faithfully. I guess you can’t find the Lord in a building, he has to be in your heart.
Yet, my day starts and ends with the Lord, Our Savior. I pray all day long, and I am very much at peace, I have great health, an awesome attitude, and people have complimented me on my “star filled eyes,” or “you have a glow about you.” That’s because I don’t let negative people in my space. Even if it means staying away from certain family members.
I remember reading a passage in Susan L. Taylor’s book a couple of years ago. Susan is the editor in chief of Essence Magazine and writes inspirational books. I love reading her work because, apart from being a successful black woman, she speaks to my heart and soul.
The passage said: “You must learn who deserves a front row seat in your life. Everyone doesn’t deserve you like that. Sometimes you have to put people in their rightful place in your life, a place they have earned.”
Now, I know that may not be the exact quote, but it is close. This passage literally changed my life. It opened the door to my understanding; the understanding of who and what is important and what is not. Thus, peace of mind is under my control, my life is what I make of it and not a crappy family tree.
So, no matter what is bothering you today, no matter how discouraged you may feel, know that it is temporary. Understand that it can only control you if you allow it. Put the discouragement in the back row of your life.
Be patient, and your discouragement will transform into success. God only tests our patience to let us see that we can wait, and we can wait longer than we think. It is truly our gift from God to understand and see that you are never a failure until you actually quit the race. Don’t quit the race, don’t be discouraged, keep travelling on the road to greatness. Not everyone will share your enthusiasm or your ideas. That’s okay. Just know that as long as you walk in the light, darkness can’t find you.
